# Configure a button action

Applies to **Classic App Builder**. Screens and recordings in this section show the Classic interface.

Run a resource operation from a button and verify its effect.

**Before you start:** choose a test operation, identify its required inputs, and prepare synthetic data.

## Configure the action

1. Add or select a **Button** component.
2. Open **Click Action**.
3. Choose **Run Operation**.
4. Choose the **Resource** and **Action**.
5. Bind the required inputs, including the record identifier when the operation needs one.
6. Where appropriate, use **Confirm on execute** to explain the action before execution.
7. Preview and run the operation with the intended test account.

## Verify the result

Check the actual source record or operation result. Test missing inputs and a restricted user. If a confirmation is configured, cancel it and confirm that the operation does not run.

For navigation, choose **Navigate to Page** instead and pass the required page parameters. For a sequence, use the relevant workflow action.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.jetadmin.io/classic-app-builder/classic-tutorials/configure-a-button-action.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
